Happy and his fabulous crew, will be returning to Le Club in Westhampton Beach for their 5th summer here and the 13th Anniversary of the Wholistic Tennis Academy.  The club has two entrances, one from Old Riverhead Road (Gabreski airport) and the other from Depot road.  The number at the club is 631-288-6009.  Anyone interested in any of our programs may sign up by phone or by mail.

The following is our brochure, which we will be mailed by May, 1st.  Call if you would like to have one sent to you.

Wholistic Tennis Academy

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

To provide a nurturing and fun atmosphere where boys and girls can commit themselves to the pursuit of excellence by being the best tennis players they can be, while also developing personal traits, which will allow them to be happy and well-adjusted human-beings.

DIRECTOR OF TENNIS:

Happy Bhalla brings over 30 years of teaching experience to WTA. Years of striving to learn more and a sincere commitment to be the best teacher he can be. His teaching style attempts to view students as Wholistic individuals, rather than “just” tennis players.  It combines his two loves. Spirituality: living with awareness; and Tennis: the pursuit of excellence. He believes “tennis is the language by which we can teach our students deeper values, provide wider perspectives and ultimately bring a joy and peacefulness, under all circumstances, that far transcends the temporary satisfaction that winning provides”.

PHILOSOPHY:

By placing an emphasis on the process as opposed to the result, we believe we can encourage students to realize a positive aspect of competition; one that builds self-esteem through simple participation and effort, rather than one contingent upon winning. Competitive tennis players all too often seem to somewhere lose the joy of simply hitting tennis balls.  Our goal is to combine the pursuit of excellence, to be the very best one can be, and yet maintain the simple pleasure of participation. The joy of tennis must always be the process, of moving and hitting the ball and meeting the personal challenges that the game in all its aspects presents.  Our teaching methodology is a game-based approach to learning.  This methodology is based on the principle that tennis is a game of 'feel' and timing and that the body learns by doing.

STAFF:

Happy personally trains his assistants. They are chosen, not only for their excellence and commitment to the game, but also because of their sincerity, professionalism, personality, character and ability and desire to relate to and work with youngsters.

JUNIOR PROGRAMS:

JUNIOR CLINICS

Sessions will be tempered to the needs of the student. For some, emphasis will be based on strengthening basic fundamentals, which will establish a technically solid foundation that will allow students to reach their full potential.

For more advanced players, emphasis will be placed on the art of playing matches by working on strategy, shot selection, point combinations, reading and reacting to match situations, as well as mental awareness training and physical conditioning.

Daily group lessons will be available. Students are invited to choose their own schedule, which could range from playing twice a week, three times a week or daily. Classes will be 90 minutes in duration and groups will be based on ability and age. Additional court time will be available for match play.

HALF-DAY SESSIONS:

This is a popular choice for many of our students. Individuals can choose the morning 9am-noon everyday or a few days per week.  Sessions include drilling, point-play and match-play.

ELITE PROGRAM

This is a specialized and highly personalized program closely supervised by Happy for highly motivated kids with special skills.  Only 3 players to a court.  This is a tournament training program that will help players, not only improve their technical skills, but teach them how to compete in a relaxed and enjoyable way in order to reach their full athletic potential.  All facets of the game will be addressed: technical, tactical, fitness and the often neglected, mental.
