  • Instinctive Tennis

The Natural way to learn, play and teach tennis
by Author: Happy Bhalla
Binding: Paperback, 255 pages
Publisher: Mosaic Books
Published Date: 2003

ISBN: 81-901297-8-3

The author's understanding is that tennis is a microcosm of life; consequently, he believes it is possible to transform both our lives and ourselves by changing the way we play tennis. He calls this style of play, instinctive tennis. Instinctive tennis happens to you through bringing a greater awareness both into the way we play tennis and the reasons why we play tennis. The journey towards being the best tennis player you can be and being happy and contented in your life do not go in different directions. The road is exactly the same! The author's awareness of this has transformed the way he teaches and plays tennis and the objective of this book is to provide the same opportunity to others.

This book will be a valuable tool for tennis players, coaches and parents, it is for those players who are starting out to play for the first time as well as for top tennis professionals who are at the pinnacle of their profession, and for all levels in-between. To all these players, frustration, anger, unfulfilled desires and unrealized expectations are common and painful experiences. This book will help us transcend those emotions that not only make peak performance impossible, but also render the journey so unpleasant.

This book is for coaches who are inexperienced and new to the teaching profession and who are eager and passionate about learning as much as possible about their avocation. It is equally suitable for those individuals who have been professionals their entire adult lives and for whom change, in whatever form it comes, is difficult and threatening, but are nevertheless open-minded enough to look at old things in new ways.

Finally, this book is for parents, those largely well-intentioned individuals who wish the best for their children, but who, if they are honest, will admit that they have no idea of what is 'best' or how to achieve it. It is for those parents who wish to help their children be the best tennis players they can be without sacrificing their own relationship with them.

Happy Bhalla, the author was born and raised in London, England, where at an early age, sports became a solace and eventually a passion. The author lives six months of the year in the Hamptons of Long Island, NY where he runs a Tennis Academy for both juniors and adults. In his early twenties, the greater questions concerning the meaning of life consumed him and a journey of self-discovery began in earnest. Sports, and tennis in particular, has become the preferred vehicle of choice upon which he has decided to reflect his spiritual journey
